Otago University’s 'Lab in a Box' came to our school. Each class got to experience the different activities and be scientists. It was great getting to check out the river critters up close through the microscope. Thanks to the Waiora Manuherekia project for bringing this to local schools!
Our Wool Unit
Amber-Lee brought some fleeces in to share with us. We saw the difference between medium, tender and soft wool.
We learnt how to sort the wool and take out the contaminated bits. Then the fun part was throwing a fleece.
Chanelle spent the day with us and used natural materials to dye some wool.
The students loved working with her and seeing the great colours produced.
Our visit to Hickey's Wool Store. Hayden showed us around and answered our many questions. We all learnt so much more about wool and what happens to it after it has left the sheep.
